Updates from the Chairman:

On 9th May, there was a celebration of Tagore’s Birthday in Sector 5. For the first time. We will observe more cultural events in Sector 5 to recognise and reward talent in IT and other professionals of Sector 5.

Earlier, we observed an Earth Day where we talked of taking care of planet Earth by promising to ourselves to adopt a more sustainable, greener way of life.

At Nabadiganta, we have started recycling and reusing water. Greeneries in road verges and gardens in Sector – V need water and a portion of this requirement is being done through use of treated recycled waste water Currently, the quantity is about 30 - 40 KL per day and it is expected to go up gradually, thus saving precious freshwater. The photographs below show how tankers from the Sewage Treatment Plant of Sector V are taking water and using road median plantations.

Message From The Chairman

SC0 5724-Edit 1488187812 171.79.93.255

SHRI DEBASHIS SEN, IAS

Additional Chief Secretary to the Govt.  of West Bengal & Chairman, Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority

The Constitution provides for an Industrial Township Authority under Article 243Q.  Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority was created in January 2006 under this mandate and under provisions of Chapter XXVA and Section 385A of the West Bengal Municipal Act 1993.  It is spread over an area of 432 acres.

A unique characteristic of Nabadiganta is that while its resident population is estimated to be 900, the floating population is 1 lakh.  All these commuters work in the service sector consisting of IT/ITES, Financial Institutions, Telecom, Healthcare and Food Services.

There are few other establishments too.  NDITA is responsible for water supply, sewerage, roads, solid waste management, street lighting, street sweeping, furnishing of building plans and collection of property tax and fees.

Being the showcase of economic activity generator of West Bengal, Government of West Bengal has laid special emphasis in making this a World Class Destination.  The recently completed Ring Road has a beautiful street architecture.  Further, efforts are being taken in beautifying the township and by putting up way-finding signages and pathways, to make it a destination that will be suitable for world class professionals.

Some of the other new initiatives include extending public Wi Fi in the main airport bound Salt Lake By Pass, use of energy efficiency, lighting, designing of a Town Hall, construction of multi-level car parking with food court, laying underground ducts for diverting Cable TV and OFC under the ground, encouraging green transportation and introducing separate cycle tracks.

A special initiative is also being taken for making Nabadiganta a green and sustainable habitat.  A beginning is being made by encouraging reuse of waste water, creating renewable energy sources and using energy efficient appliances.

I call upon all citizens and visitors of Nabadiganta to contribute towards the goal of making Nabadiganta  India’s  Silicon Valley.

In Retrospect
From the marshy and watery wastes to the country's Hi-Tech Happening point, the journey of Nabadiganta is fascinating. The sprawling 430 acre Sector-V of the Salt Lake City is coming to terms with itself at the start of a new millennium.
